How much can you offer to be able to see God? It is a popular myth that no man can see God. Children are taught in schools that they can’t see God. In churches, Christians are taught that God is invisible. How invisible is God?

If you are asked, “what does God look like?”, what will be your response?

In the OT, God gave specific instructions on how the ark should be built. The ark of God was kept in the Most Holy Place. What image of God could you in the ark? None. Two cherubs circled an empty space. The cherubs had a visible image, but God had none. Now here is the big question, “Can a human see an invisible God?

How does God look like?

God is not the image of any earthly or visible thing, but he can take any form. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4.24). If God is Spirit, is it possible for a human to see a Spirit?

Who Can see God?

He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor recognizes him (John 14.17). But you recognize him, because he lives with you and will be in you. I am not going to forsake you like orphans. I will come back to you (John 14.17-18).

In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also. At that time you will know that I am in my Father, that you are in me, and that I am in you. The person who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I, too, will love him and reveal myself to him.”

Judas (not Iscariot) asked him, “Lord, how is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?”

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. Then my Father will love him, and we will go to him and make our home within him (John 14.19-23)

From the above scripture, it is conclusive that:

1) Only disciples of Christ can see God

2) The world cannot see God

The world cannot see God because they cannot receive Him. Judas could not understand how only them (disciples) could see Jesus and the rest of the world couldn’t.

It was possible for the disciples to see God because he lived in them and them in Him. They see Him with the eyes of their spirit. They recognize His presence in them. They know Him because He reveals Himself to them.

Man can see and know God. Man can hear the soundless voice of God. When God opens the eyes and ears of a man’s heart, spiritual insight is attained.

It is possible for God to reveal himself to some and hide himself from others.

“How blessed are those who are pure in heart, because it is they who will see God! (Mat 5.8)

A pure heart can see God because God dwells only in a holy place. A pure man lives with God. A heart is purified by the way of stern obedience to the words of Christ.

Judas (not Iscariot) asked him, “Lord, how is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?”

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. Then my Father will love him, and we will go to him and make our home within him (John14.19-23)

Nobody finds God by chance. God hides himself from all except those whom He chooses to reveal himself to.

There is no need to prove His existence to anyone. The only right answer to an atheist is this: “God does not need to prove himself to anyone. If they do not seek him earnestly, they will never see Him. They will perish in their folly”.

King David said to his son Solomon, “Now as for you, my son Solomon, get to know the God of your father. Serve him with a sound heart and a devoted soul, because the LORD is searching every heart, every plan and thought. He will be found by you, assuming you are seeking him, but if you abandon him, he will abandon you forever (1 Chron 28.9).

Seek to become pure by obeying the words of Christ. Then he will love you, make his home in you, and reveal himself to you. Then you will see and hear Him.
